The Challenge

Motorpoint required a consistent lighting standard across multiple UK retail locations. Each site had evolved independently over time, resulting in a mixture of outdated lighting technologies, uneven brightness levels and rising maintenance costs.

Showrooms lacked the uniform illumination needed to present vehicles accurately, while expansive outdoor forecourts relied on inefficient fittings that consumed significant energy. Offices, preparation bays and cleaning areas also varied from branch to branch, making estate-wide management difficult.

For a national car dealership, inconsistency creates operational inefficiency. Motorpoint needed a single solution capable of delivering the same brand experience and performance across every location.

The Solution

CEMA conducted surveys at all eight sites and created a repeatable lighting specification that could be deployed nationwide across the car showrooms, while still adapting to each building’s layout.

A central design framework ensured consistent showroom lux levels, colour temperature and presentation standards across the entire estate. Each branch then received a bespoke lighting design covering showrooms, offices, preparation areas and external forecourts.

The rollout was delivered in a phased programme coordinated by CEMA, giving Motorpoint one contractor, one programme of works and one point of accountability across Birmingham, Birtley, Burnley, Oldbury, Newport, Sheffield, Peterborough and Widnes.

The system was engineered to be scalable, allowing future branches to adopt the same proven specification without operational disruption.

By replacing inconsistent, outdated lighting systems with a consistent design model, CEMA enabled Motorpoint to modernise and benefit in every location, creating a future-ready lighting infrastructure, saving over £180,000 in energy costs annually and over 576 tonnes of carbon, the equivalent of planting 3,459 trees every year.
